Boredome in the Surfdome ~ Emtec yawn contagious

Emtec and Life Insurance

Engadget posted yesterday on the new Emtec 2GB C230 portable media player. Apparently, it’s a bit snoozy: “Try not to yawn too hard on this one, but Emtec has loosed a fairly boring PMP that does manage to do a so-so job in the attractivity department.”

I’m still trying to figure out why out of the millions of things you could use as a stock photo to sell a screen everyone chooses beaches, surfing, sailboats and the like. Go to Costco and look at all of the TV boxes from Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba, and Vizio. These are from a trip there last month:

Listen up screen makers, you’re not standing out in the crowd. The images you use are unremarkable.

Not to mention the stupid term life insurance ad that somehow magically got placed on the same page as the blog’s product review. Mom with baby on the beach? What does this mean? If you die, make sure your kid can still go on vacation?

This unfortunate ad placement does not reflect at all on the good folks at Engadget because these ads are chosen by an algorithm, but did you read the ad copy up there? “Can you put a price tag on PIECE of mind?” What kind of head morsel did they “higher” to do this for them?
