His Next Lei ~ Ted Haggard on His Knees Again

Ted Haggard Lei

Not since this last lei has Ted Haggard dropped so hard to his knees—this time begging for cash. He apparently says that he and his wife just need people to help them get by with their monthly expenses for two years of education until they can take up residence at the faith-based Phoenix Dream Center. What do they plan on doing there? Well, they want to be counselors.

How could people ever trust this man? And why will people actually give him money? You know some will. Someone should get his wife counseling so that she’ll have the strength to get up and leave him. But imagine the power they both must have felt standing, and occasionally kneeling, in front of so many followers. Does she want that life back? Rarely do you see two people who appear to be so wrapped up in loving the image of who they think they are.

It’s over, Ted. Your dream is dead. Let people go back to their lives now please and get on with yours.

And to the Dream Center I implore you: please please please use your resources on people in real need. These people are a disgrace. They probably have more resources than most of the people who work at your center. According to the article:

“Haggard received a salary of $115,000 for the 10 months he worked in 2006 and an $85,000 anniversary bonus before the scandal broke, The Gazette reported. Haggard’s severance package included a year’s salary of $138,000, and he collects royalties on his book titles, the newspaper reported.”

These people are abominable.

Colorado Confidential has a post with more information on Ted Haggard. In it, we learn that as part of Ted’s letter he says that people will be rewarded in heaven for helping him out: “Any help we can get with this will be greatly appreciated and, I believe, rewarded in heaven.”

Also, as noted in that post, The Stranger in Seattle has some information pointing out that one of the groups that Haggard is involved with is called Families with a Mission, to whom you can send support for the Haggards if you want a tax deduction. Yet the charity was dissolved in February.

Interestingly enough, The Stranger notes that the name of the only person on file associated with Families With a Mission is a Paul Huberty. There is also a Paul G. Huberty who is registered sex offender and former Lieutenant Colonel who left the state. Which state? Hawaii. This Paul moved to Colorado and shares the same address as the Families with a Mission Paul. Same person?

Don’t worry. The non-existent group will only take 10% of the money for administrative purposes.
