Lamborghini barf bags ~ Ride on a volcano out of hell in style

Lamborghini recently revealed a new car, the Reventón, in Frankfurt according to Jolopnik. Seeing it for the first time was a holy sh** moment for me. If Saab is “Born from Jets,” then this car is “Spawned from Jet Weaponry.”

It probably gets terrible gas mileage, but when something is this beautiful is it not okay to have just a few of them driving around to make us all feel like there is beauty left in the world?

For those of us who managed to get over our child-like addictions of coveting the Countach and dropping to your knees over the Diablo (devil references to follow), prepare to fall off the bull wagon again.

Seeing the Reventón made me realize that I had distanced myself so far from my Lamborghini dreaming that I had never visited their website. Where there are luxury goods, you usually find references to escape and paradise. I did find one volcano image, but there are also two others worth critiquing.

First off there’s the bull ride opener:

Ready to ride? I know all about the Lamborghini bull theme, but I still found this image a little shocking. Yet it works—particularly if they sell most of their cars to Texans, Oklahomans, and Kathy Lee Gifford fans.

Then there’s the volcano image they use for their magazine (2006 edition I assume):

It reads: “Reporting from hell: the Lamborghini magazine.” Yes, fiery lava eruptions are a little overdone, but they have reversed the volcano paradise image. It makes you wonder if Lamborghini owners are the bad boys who get sent there or if they are the cowboy heros who have used their cars to rescue the rich and beautiful people from the clutches of Satan. It’s probably the former. The image also makes you think about the fiery force behind a Lamborghini, as if it could propel you out of hell faster than a Meatloaf song. I’m going with that one.

The final piece was just out of pure curiosity for me. They had a merchandising section with only one product:

Yes, that’s the Lamborghini barf bag. What an odd, odd, odd thing to have on your website. Yes, we all understand the story of flying in a really fast jet, but if your newest car has a G-force meter on it, there’s no way we’re going to be able to rip our arms off the seat to place this bag to our lips. Get some new merchandise, like a snowglobe or something.
