Beyonce Knowles wants to get away on a boat with American Express and the people she loves

Beyonce Knowles for American Express

In following up on the question of how rich people should act vs. how they actually do, Beyoncé is being featured in one of the American Express ads where they ask the celebrity to fill out who they are and what they love.  Her photo features a jet, a limo, and a shiny gold dress with heels that could serve as stairs to the plane from the tarmac.  She’s been a member of the American Express club since 2001 and is proudest of her winning her first Grammy.  Then comes the good part.

She describes her perfect day as "Lounging in the sun, on a Boat, in the middle of nowhere, with the people I love."  Ah, yes, the simple things that we love to hear at Rapidsea.  I’m curious at what point in her life she decided that was her perfect day (pre- or post-success), or if she is really holding back on what she wants to say, "ice cream and soap operas."  Did American Express ask her to say these things to associate their cards with escape and luxury?

Be sure to check out the happy-place Flash opener at her website too (turn your speakers off if you’re at the office, and we won’t tell anyone you went there from this site either).

The ad has been featured in a number of places, but this double-page spread was on pages 36 and 37 of GQ November 2007.  I have touted American Express’s service in the past, but I don’t necessarily like when they fall into escapism for advertising purposes.  They are more successful with other ideas.
