Full Sail Real World Education ~ Wings for sails
We have a double transportation escape whammy with a school called "Full Sail Real World Education" that uses its name along with a logo of an old prop plane. It’s a mode of transportation that you may have taken on a weekend excursion to Cuba decades ago when prop planes were more widely used and Cuba was a highly fashionable and fairly accessible destination for Americans. If you read information at their site, you will leave knowing that their technology has apparently come a long way since that time.
The school was apparently founded in 1979, but now goes as far as offering online degree programs. I found my way to their site from a banner ad on Wired’s website.
Full Sail is a private school based in Florida and, according to the Wikipedia article, was founded 28 years ago by Jon Phelps as a recording studio workshop. You’ll now pay between $33,000 and $70,000 for an entire degree program, which could be an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree.
Their fields of study include the following: Computer Animation, Digital Arts and Design, Entertainment Business, Film, Game Art, Game Development, Graphic Design, Music Business, Recording Arts, Show Production and Touring, and Web Design and Development. There might be others too.
After a bit of research, I was unable to find out why they chose the name "Full Sail" or why they use a logo with an airplane on it. I have some guesses, and they don’t lend themselves to much beyond the ordinary "fly with your sails open" or ‘escape your old life" kind of thinking, which leaves me wanting to know the full story.
The school should not be confused with Full Sail Brewing out of Oregon.
