Get the most out of life by leaving Bank of America

Today is the day that I make my first attempt to close my accounts at Bank of America.  I say attempt because I know of a person who has tried to get them to deactivate his accounts three times.  I’m doing exactly what they told me to do on their homepage this morning: get the most out of life.

Don’t be fooled by the happy ocean images they project of their company.  We have had a ton of problems with their systems in our household, which they seem to be merging actively without telling people that they might get booted from services like automatic payments.  Then when you call them to tell them to remove the late payment fee, they condescendingly tell you that they will remove the late fee because you have never had any late payments before.  To which I ask, "Why don’t you remove the late fee because you did not follow through on your part of our automatic payment agreement?"

Beware of this company.  They have expanded so quickly and are becoming so powerful, that their monopolist-like customer service will likely never improve.  That’s why I’m getting on that yacht there and heading out.  I’m also going to go scuba diving when I get to wherever I’m going, just like they told me to do in their television commercials.

Does anybody out there have anything good to say about them?  I would honestly love to hear just one good story.  I have had nothing but bad experiences.  For example, their websites are terribly inefficient and confusing, and they didn’t even offer me checks when I opened my checking account.  Then there is the 22 pages that arrived in my mail in a booklet called Personal Schedule of Fees.  They even deceptively numbered the booklet so that you would think it is only 12 pages by only giving one page number to each double-page spread.

All three of my accounts are getting closed today.  Or next week.  Or maybe never if they decide to keep them open.
