CNN takes heat for ‘diamonds vs. pearls’ question for Hillary at Democratic Debate in Vegas

CNN is taking some heat for asking a UNLV student to close the debate with a light-hearted question for Hillary Clinton about whether she prefers diamonds or pearls. The young woman says that she would have preferred to ask a question about nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, but CNN told her to end the questioning on a soft note.
Senator Clinton’s response: "I know I am sometimes accused of not being able to make a choice. I want both."
Always choose pearls, Senator. Always choose pearls.
Here are two posts that talk about the controversy: TPM and Marc Ambinder from The Atlantic.

This is nothing but yet another reason to attack and smear Hillary. I actually thought it was a pretty valid question.
I disagree that this is an attack on Senator Clinton. People are mad at CNN. As for this post, it is meant as advice, not an attack. The Rapidsea stance is that pearls have more cultural meaning than diamonds, especially in areas of the country where Senator Clinton needs to woo women who are trying not to distrust her. Many people have a very negative view of diamonds as being either blood-stained or simply cold. Pearls say class and influence, and you can rarely go wrong with a classy, influential connection to the sea.
