Heroes Star Hayden Panettiere breaks down over the killing of baby dolphins

20071101BabyDolphinKillingHaydenPanettiere

Click play on the video below to see a graphic newscast of a very controversial annual dolphin killing tradition in Japan.  Hayden Panettiere was one of the surfer protesters who went to try to stop this year’s slaughter.  She broke down talking about the experience.  Each year the tradition gains more attention.

How much longer can they keep this tradition going with the global political pressure mounting against it and the “scientific” whale slaughter?

To view the video, just click on Hayden. It’s a flash video, so it won’t work on a device such as the iPhone (at least not at the time of this comment).

What the heck??? A TRADITION??? What kind of tradition is killing dolphins for no reason??? Grrr… next year, I want to be there protesting. But really??? Why would killing innocent, beautiful animals ever be CONSIDERED a tradition??? Do they thinks it’s FUN to kill things??? Honestly, if they want to kill things, they should kill themselves. Atleast the dolphins would be happy.

First of all, the dolphin killings don’t even compare to the amount of cows and chickens that are killed every day in America. Not to justify dolphin killing, but everyone needs to make sure they have thought it through before they openly criticize. Secondly, the dolphin killing has brought on much attention and the Cove which was the documentary about the dolphin killing in Taiji has won awards so it has definitely been getting much more attention. And last, it is not all of Japan that are hunting dolphins so you cannot categorize an entire country for what one town in that country is doing.

I doubt anybody disagrees with your points, E. Nobody thinks that half of Tokyo takes a week off every year to kill dolphins. Japan is a huge country with diverse local and economic customs. People in the US have a different cultural attachment to dolphins and whales than cattle. Some attribute it to the dolphins’ intelligence; others believe dolphins and whales are important to protect because of some of the individual species’ scarcity. Still others have anthropomorphized the animals to the point that they feel like the people in Taiji are murdering their own family members. Slaughter of any animal is gruesome. Do people care? Yes, some do. Most are happy to forget.

Really? I mean seriously people need to think sometimes. Because maybe dolphin may be good but do they think killing and butchering the dolphins are fun.? I dont know what goes on in their minds but i think it is sooo rude to do that to all those dolphins, and there my favorite animal. So im not going to Japan or any other place that kills them. Its so disrespectful
