Residents of Chile lose homes in major earthquake Resort to beach umbrellas for shelter

Many thousands of residents in Chile lost their homes in this week’s major 7.7 earthquake, but CNN has at least provided us with the AFP/Getty Images photo proving that at least they saved their beach umbrellas for use as shelter:

This is the only place on their website where this photo currently appears.  All of the others linked to the article here are much more somber.  What is it about beach shelter that makes this a photo worthy of the front page of a major world news provider’s website?  Does the beach malign the tragedy or save the day?
