Top Selling Items at the Microsoft Company Store ~ no love for Vista or Office 2007

Today’s Microsoft question: the big engine that still can or here kitty kitty?

After my Microsoft ReMIX 2007 and Popfly reviews, I wondered if Microsoft would track me down and cancel the perqs that came with my registration.  In grand Microsoft fashion, however, everything arrived via express courier yesterday.

Microsoft is always incredibly hospitable at their conferences, and Inside the envelope were several DVDs chock full of hundreds of dollars worth of Expression Studio goodies.  There was a also a handy pass to the company store allowing a $120 purchase of Microsoft software and hardware at employee prices, which turns out to be a pretty good deal.

Sadly, it seems that according to the Company Store homepage, which is run by eCompanystore out of Georgia, Microsoft’s own people don’t seem to be buying into Vista or Office 2007.  Check out the top sellers among Microsoft Company Store shoppers:

Then again, maybe it’s the mad rush of people from the conference who have bought all those things (many of which are sold out at this point). Or perhaps these are the best selling products of all time?

In any event, the situation does not bode well for the company who had my head chock-full of MS-DOS before I knew what a direct object was.  I almost have underdog feelings for them at this point.  Maybe it’s time for eCompanystore to reset the count.

And what’s up with Office Mac Pro 2004 in the number 8 slot?

I don’t think that list is very representative. Don’t forget most of us at Microsoft have MSDN Subscriptions, so if we were buying boxed goods at the store they’re gifts for our non-tech-savy friends, you know those who run ancient beasts that won’t support vista ;)

With OS launches the employees get the new OS for free- and typically have been using it for 6 months to a year at work beforehand. A 30,000 person beta test. If you are working from home you can also get OS and security products as an employee. So the store is for friends and other computers at home.
Vista is not my personal favorite OS – but I don’t think you can really draw any kind of ‘insider’ info from top sellers from the mail-order store. Same with sales of Office 2003.
