Hawaiian Airlines charges ‘death fee’

There is nothing more certain in life than death, taxes, and airline fees. And now Hawaiian Airlines is being criticized in an article by David Lazarus at the LA Times, which is worth a read for more details. Apparently, after her traveling companion died, a woman was charged a fee of $75 to cancel each of her tickets many months before the scheduled trip. The hotels and other airlines that she had booked reservations on canceled the reservations with no problems, but Hawaiian Airlines said no.
In the end, American Express refunded the money to her. It’s a great company as mentioned here if you’re not already one of their customers. I’m not paid to say that either.
Hawaiian Airlines currently touts being "America’s most on time airline." Luckily for shareholders, their profits are up for the year too.
Wake up, airlines. You might be in a commodity business, but a little bit of humanity still goes a long way.
