Panasonic Toughbook ‘Legally we cannot say’
Panasonic’s whole “legal” campaign escapes some channels of logic. “It would be illegal to tell you what we’re going to tell you.” They’ve been advertising their Toughbook with this new island ad (among others):

Is built in wireless broadband access really that special? “No special designated area or coffee shop needed.” Except, yes, you will need to be in specially designated area of a mobile phone tower to use the wireless features. It’s just a different scale.
Many of the islands you might be going to aren’t going to have reliable mobile phone service. Check with your carrier before you head off, and you also might want to choose an island that doesn’t have terribly rugged topography to help ensure a good signal, something a little less rugged than the one at the end of this post. Otherwise, you’re probably going to need to take a canoe out a half mile to get a line-of-sight connection to a tower. Bring a big clear garbage bag. I don’t think this computer is totally waterproof.
Come clean with us, Panasonic. This ad isn’t about traveling to islands as much as it’s bout you trying to tell us that we need to escape with your product, is it?
They should take those computers and put them in situations where they act as shields. For example, what if they merged with the Herbal Essences camels and used the Toughbooks as saddles, sand shields, or shade.
