Appalling Golfweek magazine noose cover
One of the media representatives of the escapist, and often exclusive, sport of golf has caused quite an uproar. It’s Golfweek magazine, which published this cover with a noose on it:
What?! It’s not like noose scares aren’t all over the news? Is that where they got the idea? This is a classic example of using [...]
Ultimate palm tree ~ no bloom for 100 years and then POOF!
Some people on Madagascar realized recently that a large palm tree that grows to a height of 66 feet actually blooms every hundred years. Even more dramatic is the humongous tree-like "bloom" that pops out of the top of the palm tree:
This one is so weird that it’s begging for some bad jokes to surface.

VW ~ Oceanside car breakup
This too-hip guy decides that he would rather drive a new VW Beetle than keep his old car:
…so he leaves it in a parking lot by the sea. What a loser. Poor car.
It’s a good reason to not buy an VW.
The LOLcano
Here’s an image that popped up from this link on Image Shack:
It struck me as funny.
Guinness Life of a Dot
The little dot could be anything, even the Eden or the submarine you’ll see in this advertisement…
Instead, it chose to be a pint of Guinness.
This reminds me of the hula hoop in the Hudsucker Proxy movie.
By way of Duncan’s TV Ad Land, which has more information and full stats on the ad.
DeLorean ~ okay, so you have gull-wing doors
It’s one thing to refer to "gull-wing doors" on your automobile. Nobody really thinks of a seagull when you say it, but they know what you mean. So, is the demise of the DeLorean such a huge shocker when you see the literal seagull images plastered all over this ad:
It’s a classic car and a [...]
Ocean View Cam for iPhone
Apple.com posted a new iPhone "webapp" for iPhone owners (or anyone with web access):
Yes, that’s the Ocean View Cam. I’m not sure if that’s at all useful to anyone, but it’s there for you. Here’s the link. Here are more Webapps too at Apple.
Will the late-February SDK ever get here? These webapps have to go. [...]
Corelle dinnerware ~ the harshest paradisiacal conditions
This ad has nothing to do with the product:
Yes, it’s Corelle glass dinnerware. And it looks like it was discarded into the great floating trash abyss in the Pacific. And does anybody really think of this type of underwater coral/fish scene as "the harshest conditions"?
This one came from the January/February issue of Elle Decor page [...]
Floating data centers
ars technica is reporting on floating data centers. Essentially, a company called International Data Security is going to retrofit old ships to serve as data centers with ocean-water cooling.
I have to admit that I’m skeptical. Even keeping little HVAC screws from puncturing the roofing membrane of an ordinary data center is hard enough. [...]
Shark Jesus ~ new word ‘parthenogenesis’
A shark in a Hungarian aquarium shocked a lot of people when it gave birth to a little shark pup without ever coming into contact with a male shark. Some people are referring to it as the "Jesus Shark." Virgin birth is known as "parthenogenesis."
According to this Telegraph article, "Parthenogenesis, where an egg starts to [...]
