Swedish Fish AquaLife ~ Canadian sea creatures

Who knew a second guinea-pig-to-paradise candy opportunity would pop up in the same week?  Today we have the new Swedish Fish AquaLife “Soft & Chewy Candy” in approximately a 6″ X 4″ X 3/4″ box full of dolphins, whales, starfish, blowfish, seahorses, and of course red Swedish Fish:

They’re not quite as pretty in real life as they are portrayed on the happy looking box (but they are more vibrant than they appear here):

Of all of the flavors in the box, the red Swedish Fish are still the best, despite the fact that there were only five of them in the whole package, which was a huge disappointment.  Following closely behind were the blue dolphins, which were about half way to a blue raspberry Slush Puppy, stopping short of being as tart.  The yellows are not bad either.

The best quote from a fellow guinea pig to paradise was: “The green ones taste like Windex.”  I didn’t dislike them that much personally.  As for the others, well, the orange seahorses are good, but not remarkable.  I was surprised that the green ones, which appear to be whales, were not shown on the box at all.  There was already enough green apparently on the ocean floor.

If you want to stand out among your competitors, remember that adopting a beach/ocean theme won’t necessarily do it.  And if you doubt whether or not they are really trying to pack a paradise punch into their marketing, be sure to visit their website, which opens with this image:

Yup.  You never really thought of Swedish fish as tropical before, did you?

This box was over US$2.  Don’t you miss the days when you could buy a whole box of just the red ones for $5?  They were called “penny candies” for a reason.

These were found on a trip through the South this weekend.  I have yet to see them anywhere else.  To the best of my knowledge, the ones sold in North America are made in Canada (as was this box).

This catch was one of my favorites so far this year, even though I wouldn’t buy them again.  Just the red ones for me please.
