Kapalua Bay Beach on Maui named 3rd Best Place to Propose in the USA

TripAdvisor has released their Top 10 places to propose in the country.  Coming in at number three is Kapalua Bay Beach on Maui.
This is just great.  Now people will think that they have to propose on the beach, get married on the beach, and go on a beach honeymoon.
Even more surprising is the fact that [...]

Planet Green ~ levitating at the beach

The people over at Discovery Communications LLC have come up with a novel concept.  It’s called floating above the sand on the beach to avoid the microbes:

You wouldn’t want to borrow the resort’s beach towels anyway.
This banner was on the home page of the blog TreeHugger linking to their environmental sister site Planet Green.  Does [...]

Windows Seven ~ beach ready in 2009?

According to APC, the rumor is out that this is a screenshot of the upcoming WIndows 7, which may be released as early as next year (larger size available at their site):

If you are going to let an image of your upcoming product leak out onto the web, or if you even think that one [...]

Ocean View Cam for iPhone

Apple.com posted a new iPhone "webapp" for iPhone owners (or anyone with web access):

Yes, that’s the Ocean View Cam.  I’m not sure if that’s at all useful to anyone, but it’s there for you.  Here’s the link.  Here are more Webapps too at Apple.
Will the late-February SDK ever get here?  These webapps have to go.  [...]

Prudential Rock Solid Retirement

If you’re a company, do you think it would be in your best interest to advertise that you want your customers to walk all over you on their way to the beach?  Prudential said just that in this ad on the back cover of the January issue of Smithsonian magazine:

Ah, yes, Prudential is your stepping [...]

John McCain ~ Iraq ’some kind of day at the beach’

After the ACLU’s tropical paradise anti-Gitmo ad with the missing quote, another politically charged image popped up concerning John McCain’s stance on the war in Iraq, this one referring to a "day at the beach" (click to enlarge):

McCain is quoted as saying on CNN in August 2006: "The American people … were led to believe [...]

2008 ~ A good or bad year for money?

The realtors and the personal finance magazines are hot on the economy’s recovery.  This issue of Money magazine wants you to know that opportunities exist for the year:

They also are secretly pointing out how you might want to spend your money.  That’s a very nice coastal house you’ve got there.
I hope that people’s priorities [...]

Harvard Magazine ~ Autism: ‘Probing the roots of a devastating disorder’

The January/February 2008 cover of Harvard Magazine (the Alumni Association’s magazine) has been sent out and has this sunset cover on the topic of autism:

It’s a mother and her son walking on what appears to be a beach at sunset.  They are disjointed by a lightning bolt and some strange puzzle pieces.  The image shows [...]

Retirement ~ the beach allusion and illusion

Paradise retirement images range from the literal beach ads, like this T. Rowe Price one, to this very subtle Charles Schwab colors-only ad:

You have the beach, ocean, and clouds here — all in one otherwise hidden image.  The same colors were later adapted and added to other ads.  For example, there is this one for [...]

The Onion ~ Point/Counterpoint on ‘Footprints’

I mentioned the religious significance of the footprints in the Navy Seal recruitment beach ad by the same name.  Well, The Onion has taken that story and written a Point/Counterpoint article.  It’s old, but worth a read.
Here’s a Point excerpt: "You dreamed you were walking along the beach with Me…. You noticed that many times [...]
