Just for Men Haircolor ~ Divorced? Color your hair and head to the beach
Keep an eye out for a new commercial from Just for Men haircolor. It’s all about dating after divorce and how you need to wash out that gray hair to get back in the game. The dating in the commercial just happens to take place on the beach and at the tiki bar. It’s really [...]
Australian beer "Brewtopia" ~ breaking up the beautiful people’s party
Reality busts through to Brewtopia in this Pure Blonde beer ad from Australia, brought to our attention by way of Duncan’s TV Ad Land:
This beer is apparently a full-alcohol beer with fewer carbs from Fosters. The commercial is pretty entertaining. There’s nothing like shaking up the ideal. But it goes back to exactly the point [...]
No-link ad round up ~ Campbell’s Soup, Kraft Live Active Cheese, and Citizens Ukulele Banking
Three noteworthy ads are bouncing around television this week. I have searched for copies of them online, but have had no luck yet.
First off, there’s Campbell’s soup, which is advertising their new sea salt alternatives with sea imagery apparently from this Oregon lighthouse. I’ve always felt like sodium chloride was sodium chloride, but [...]
Medicine marketers ~ apply directly to the brain
People are surprised that HeadOn is selling EXTREMELY WELL (up 234% according to this temporarily-available article) in spite of its annoying “Apply directly to the forehead” commercials. The company did soften, and multiply in chorus, the voices on the repetitive tag line, but the ad still seems to work. Why?
Honda ~ hold on tight to everybody else’s dreams
Have you seen the latest Honda commercial with the car driving through the tunnel with the images rolling up around it? The Honda is the ultimate medium to paradise in this ad. Here it is:
I think the idea of the vision tunnel is pretty cool, but the tunnel vision of just rolling through common images [...]
New Wal-Mart ad starts out brilliant and trails off into an Orlando strip mall
Wal-Mart has begun releasing new ads. One that starts out really well is about a family on a road trip. I got excited to see images of real people in a real car going to real places. Then suddenly at the end they are playing in a pool with bordering palm trees [...]
Coca Cola Happiness Factory the Movie
If you enjoyed the beautiful Coca Cola “Happiness Factory” commercial from 2006, there’s a new one out. Follow this link to “Happiness Factory the Movie.”
There’s a ton of symbolism in these ads. They could be picked apart for hours. They’re a tremendous creative effort on so many levels.
They’re kind of just fun to watch too. That’s [...]
Adforum’s “Women” Focus ~ or at least bikinis, breasts, and beer
The week of September 10th’s Focus section at AdForum is on “Women.” And the first ad of the three is called “Thinkers” for Skol beer. I believe it’s a Brazilian ad. This is the still that the ad reference company chose to show of the ad:
The rest of it can be seen at this link [...]
Two Charmin toilet paper commercials rub me the wrong way
Have you seen the latest Charmin commercial with the red and blue bears—one representing tough tissue and the other softer TP—running along the beach to the matching portajohns? Here it is:
Those bears look like they are on the Biggest Loser. This commercial is terrible. Are they Wall Street bears on vacation, or are they [...]
Free private island from Sprint ~ only costs you $10.5 million for the BlackBerry
Sprint has done some really nice things with their “Sprint speed” light drawing campaign. I have been searching for signs of gratuitous paradise in their commercials for a while now, and they have pretty much avoided adding in the fluff of palm trees. The closest that I came to was a light-drawn sun as a [...]
